Thursdays In The Valley – Part 28

I look up . . . I can’t see anything . . .

“That’s bull shit. You did not kill those people. God, you’ve been blaming yourself for this shit for how long?”

“About four years.”

“You know what is your fault?”

“What?”

“Wasting four years of your life. What do you want? Do you think hurting yourself and being alone is going to bring those people back? Do you think . . .”

“Wha . . . what, wasting . . . you don’t fucking know me. How can you sit there and judge me like that? You wanted to know what happened, I told you.”

“Judge you? I’m not judging you, how could I? Your own judgment is so heavy there isn’t room for anyone else’s.”

I stand up . . .

“I don’t need this shit.”

“Why? Because I’m questioning you? Because I’m casting doubt into your closed little world?”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve carried this for four fucking years, what the fuck have you carried? What do you know about any of this?”

“You’re right. I can’t possibly know how you feel, but I do see what you’re doing to yourself and it’s not right. You don’t deserve it. It wasn’t your fault.”

There he is . . . so familiar . . .

“There’s no end to any of this.”

“What are you talking about?

“It doesn’t stop. I appreciate your words, but they aren’t enough.”

“I told you you’re stubborn.”

“It’s not being stubborn, it’s understanding. It’s acceptance.”

“Alright, maybe I’m too stupid to follow you, but what understanding are you referring to? What are you accepting?”

“You’re not stupid.”

“Tell me what you’re talking about.”

“It’s fucking cold out here.”

“Oh, don’t even go there. I told you it was going to be cold. It was your idea to come here. You want your sweater back?”

“No, you keep it. It’s actually not all that cold, I was just trying to find something to say.”

“It’s ok, you’ve said a lot already. We probably aren’t going to find all the answers right now . . . tonight.”

“We?”

“Yeah. You and me. We’re gonna figure this all out.”

“Why are you doing this?”
