“I want you to understand, once I agree to do this, if I agree to do this, that’s it, there’s no turning back.”
“Of course, I understand. It’s just as important to me that you are serious and will follow through with this.”
“Let’s go over it again, just so we are on the same page. You, a complete stranger to me who I just met, is offering me an as of yet undecided amount of money to kill your husband.”
“And you say you have thought this through?”
“Yes, I want this to happen. It has to happen. It’s my only way out.”
“I gotta get a beer, wait here, I’ll be right back.”
“I’ll get it for you.” the woman says.
“No, I’ll get my own beer, you just wait here.”
The woman takes some money out of her purse and slides it across the table toward Bobby.
“Well here then, let me pay for it.”
“Shit!” Bobby quickly sits back down.
“Put that fucking money back in your purse. Are you kidding me? Don’t be handing me any money in here. What the fuck’s the matter with you?”
“I was just trying to . . .”
“Well don’t. O.K.?”
“Sorry, I was just trying to be nice.”
Bobby walks away, shaking his head. As he gets to the bar he notices some strange guy with a big stupid smile on his face staring directly at him. Bobby turns to face the stranger and asks,
“Can I help you with something friend?”
“What do you mean?” The stranger responds.
“Well, you are sitting there looking right at me, smiling, do I know you?”
“Nope, don’t think so. Just sittin’ here minding my own business.” The stranger smiles wider.
“Well how about you keep minding your own business and quit fucking looking at me?”
The stranger nods his head a couple times and slides down to the end of the bar.
