How long will you sit back
Watching a slow dance
Wishing
It was you out there
Always waiting
For the next song
'Cause maybe, just maybe
You'll find
The courage to dance
But time
Is winding down
The room grows empty
It's the last song
Of the night
You swallow hard
Stand up
You are ready
To try
But the music is gone
And there is no one
Left
With which to dance
And you understand
With a sigh
This dance
Was never meant
For you
That was not
Your song
But it's now or never
Alone, you step out
Head fills with
An unknown melody
Your feet glide
Body sways
Finally
You are dancing
And it is
Your dance
Your rhythm
Your song
And there is no need
For anyone else
To lead

That’s why we have to seize every moment presented to us, before it flickers into obscurity.

Exactly! And if we feel moments aren’t presenting themselves, then we need to make our own.

Oh how I love this. I see a few layers here, which I can appreciate, being one who tends to analyze and think rather than do. You really nailed this. It’s never too late. You don’t need to always rely on others. Make your own way, your own opportunities, I guess you could say. As always, sooo good!!

But how joyful is the dance…..

Good question. One I can’t answer for I’m still waiting to dance.

Great poem. Makes me remember high school. I like the longer line breaks in stanza one.
My brother in law used to go to nightclubs and dance by himself.

Thanks for reading! Moshing, that made me smile. In my youth, I played in a death metal band.

Anything can be turned death metal. We used to do versions of Sweet Caroline and Stepping Stone.
