This continuum of madness
That plagues throughout
Wringing hands and picked scabs
Passed from seed to full bloom
In the blink of an eye
That finds itself gouged out
Twitching in the sink
As the one that remains
Can’t look away from
The reflection in the mirror
That can’t stop laughing
Back to your first love: The Macabre?

Actually, my first love would be tacos. The macabre is a distant second.

At least the macabre doesn’t give you acid reflux…

There’s acid involved sometimes, but it ain’t reflux.

Such potent imagery with a real psycho-gothic horror feel. Chilling to the bone, and brilliant.

If we lose our ability to laugh at things, then there’s truly nothing left.

Couldn’t agree more about the value of a good laugh and I like how it crowns the absurdity in this poem.

We can turn away from the honesty of mirror in revealing who we are, and we can fabricate lies to deceive the world. But that doesn’t change the reflection on the mirror.

Absolutely. And often, in attempting to change, we inadvertently pluck out the wrong eye.

Ah but the mind sees more than the eye – pluck me out and I may bleed, but when the blood stops flowing the clarity of the madness remains.
Great poem.
